Anthony Osei Akoto – More serious issues than Coat of Arms of Ghana
Hon. Anthony Osei Ako, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tafo Pankrono in the Ashanti region stated that the current ongoing debate on whether the castle in the Coat of Arms of Ghana should be changed or not because the seat of Government is no longer at the castle is pointless.
He added, we have more important issues to be discussed which are more important to Ghanaians, so therefore don’t waste time on an issue which is purely academic debate.
Hon. Anthony Osei Akoto said, I don’t know what exactly is should be, in my point of view iss totally pointless and this issue will not get any national attention. There are other important things we need to do. This type of debate only occurs in the halls of the academia. I think that is where it belongs.
In a programme on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Anthony Osei Akoto response to an approval for a change of the Coat of Arms, which signifies the seal and authority of the state?
About different suggestion on this issue, Dr. Bossman Asare, a lecturer at the Political Science Department, Dr. Margaret Amoakohene, Director of the School of Communication both of whom as study together in University of Ghana along with Prof. Dominic Fobih, a former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Assin South, all of them express their views during an interview in Accra.
While some of them, including, a Senior Fellow at the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy, Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso, together with a retired diplomat, Mr. K. B. Asante believes that there should be no changes made to Coat of Arms of Ghana.
Hon. Anthony Osei Akoto believes that there are some of the reasons in the back of the mind of the designer of the Coat of Arms, Mr. Amon Kotei, “put it there to remind us of our experience. I think history is useful and we ought to keep it”.
He further added that this topic should be closed and no interest has been by the public because there are more important issued to be discussed.
